I hate when books are based on an English character but use only American vocabulary, and written by an American. This novel is set around the year 2150 but the teenagers speak like Peaky Blinders and the main character child speaks like an Oliver Twist orphan.

I didn’t expect this book to go in the direction it did, I mean - I thought it was a children’s/YA book when I started reading it. I’m actually really enjoying it, and for a novel written in 1973 is very progressive for its time.. I’m really interested to see how it ends.

The repetition of this book is starting to grate. Do we need to be given the full names of each character if it’s been a paragraph since they were mentioned? Chrichton’s style was that he referred to characters by their last name unless there was a reason to be called by their first (usually a child or sympathetic female character). You can really tell this was taken on by another author posthumously so far…

This book is vile. If I hadn’t got it as a Christmas present I wouldn’t be still reading it. Let’s get it done and over with tomorrow please.

I’ve never wanted to finish a book so badly. This is awful! Bloke thinks he was the gift to mankind. No wonder he got sacked.

If you think the Disney film death scene of Bambi’s Mum dying is bad, it has nothing on the original book.

My ruffled feathers 😅 are finally now relaxed with staring a series by the lovely Toni Mount and who I also had the pleasure to meet at a medieval historical event the other month. Good so far!

So far the anachronisms are really bugging me. Set in the early 1000’s (so Anglo Saxon era) yet almost everyone has post 1066 Anglo-Norman names, middle names (not a thing till 1700s) and last names that weren’t typical for the time. Just finished a paragraph where people at an inn were drinking from glasses (no one, not even nobility in Britain, had glasses in this era)

Stating the flu vaccine causes autism doesn’t set this book off for a good start. Taking the rest of this with the smallest pinch of salt.

Can’t finish it, great concept but awful execution. Shouldn’t have had the modern storyline in it. DNF

Okay there’s making history fun, and there’s trying too hard to make jokes that only are funny to people born in the 70s in the UK. Literally forcing myself to read this. It’s basically BTEC Horrible Histories.
