Oh good heavens. I have just been in such a busy time that bubble gum reading is what I seek. I got about 25 pages into this (and really loved it) and put it aside. Will come back to it very soon and actually read it!

The comparisons with Harry Potter are of course inescapable, but there is an interesting imagination at work here.

And onto novel two in this book. Well, thank heaven Gwendolyn isn't here. To think I had a cat named Gwendolyn. Oh dear.

well, that was quick. wishes are granted.

If only I could like Gwendolyn. Of course, one is not meant to, but she is beyond annoying.

No, sorry, antibiotics don't work on viruses.

Okay, and with all the killings early on, no one noticed? Really???

Bad writing. And the concept of witches and so on is offensive to me for many reasons. BUT the plot keeps me reading. What can I say?

Of course, there is the whole "wait, she was twelve???" thing.

You know, I am shallow. I love descriptions of clothing and food. Fortunately Campion supplies those.

Just started. And contrary to the author's request (turn back now!!!) I read the afterword first, because...well, I'm always curious about intentions. This was a first reads win (thank you very much). We shall see.

Very dense, very consciously written, very much steeped in Plath's poems and other writings. Interesting project.

I'm going to have to check my shelves; did I read this before? Did I simply dip into the middle? Does it just read like a bunch of other mind-candy??

You know, I really like Lippman. Sure, she is quite similar to a number of other writers with a focus on a city and a tough but tender woman PI...but she's engaging nonetheless.

Getting close to the end. I am very conflicted about this book, which is..well, darn unpleasant. But such an interesting concept, to do a novel based on an actual ancestor.

Why did this take me so long to pick up? Well, you know, there's a time for a book and not a time. Extremely well written and quite fascinating.

Found it!!! Yay. Now, on with the story. Kingsolver is as wonderful as ever.
