Long and irritating. Not the author, who is very good, but the chain of events in the history of J. Edgar Hoover, not only appalling, but disheartening. I will finish it later. I can take so much corruption, lying, etc. in the course of American History.

Boring

Boring. Not sure I will finish.

Interesting but slow going. Did you know the Borgias are Spanish not Italian? Did you know early Popes were not nice men? Learning a lot.

Convoluted

I took too long to read it and someone else put it on hold so I am back waiting for it. Grr! My fault.

I do not normally read this sort of book. Shame on me. It is well written and interesting but a lot to assimilate. I know next to nothing about World War II. So am trying to make up my lack. I am glad I chose this one. Might take a while though.

still slogging. rented the movie from my local library, again. different actors. always liked the movie. why can't I get through the book?

I have read this before, years ago. It is every bit as gripping as it was then.

Slow going. Saw the movie and liked it but this book goes round and round. 34% finished. I am determined.

I am enjoying it immensely once I got into the cadence of the speech. What horrible people! Except Elinor, who must be Jane Austen in disguise. Glad I didn't live in that period of time.

Interesting, but heart wrenching. Considering the political climate today.

I expect to like this. The earlier authors, & I do mean EARLIER, take longer & are more skilled in developing characters. The Pie CHALLENGE is definitely a CHALLENGE. ASSUME that is the point, to stretch our lazy brains.
