Strictly speaking, this is a re-read, mostly because Dad and I are watching season 1 of the series right now. You can definitely see how Leigh Bardugo grew as an author between this, her earliest work, and Rule of Wolves, her latest, not to mention Ninth House, her first "adult" fiction. Great writer who gets better with each re-read.

Flying through this but gosh, I do *not* want it to end. Between the mysterious and rich characters and the unique system of magic, Leigh Bardugo has scored a huge coup with this debut into the adult market!
