the sarcasm is very apparent, and everything else in this book seems very straightforward so far

Didn't expect that the prose is this simple (too simple for my expectation, actually)

actually really good. very insightful and inclusive. recommended for anyone not familiar or even familiar (so you'll get a more precise understanding) with the subject matter

this is honestly very good and helpful. it's based on research (600 couples), backed by a proven success rate (20% relapse rate of troubled marriages if using this workshop vs 30%-50% relapse rate of troubled marriages if using couple therapy). each of the principle part is filled with assessment criteria, then practical exercises to improve each principle.

the intro is so redundant and long lmaooo. we get it, we get it. your research and findings are so awesome that we need to be hyped up for your 7 principles even tho that's literally why we read the book in first place

I mean, I can see why this would be eye-opening for some, but it's not for me coz the things I've heard so far are pretty general and I already know most of them

hmmmm it seems like it has a similar writing style to david copperfield (makes sense, considering the inspiration) and, to a lesser extent, a little life. basically the type of writing that focuses on mundane details and fits paperback/ebook format more than audiobook (which i'm using rn), so i may not be able to absorb things much until later. but ig we'll see

at first i thought the paperback would be better due to the ginormous amount of exercises. but because the author is narrating his own book with his silly tone, various funny SFX, and change of voice as well as an almost simulation of booking a real counseling session with him, this might be one of those rare books that are better heard than read (another example is daisy jones and the six)

funny how it all ends with the "live in the moment, appreciate what you have, look down and not up, smell the roses" vibe which means at the end, the toxic positivity people are right, only that they skip all the mindful-acceptance phase of ACT

this is basically a mindfulness technique. i like the author's empathetical, slightly humorous, and chill approach, but the book really is better in its paperback/ebook form than its audiobook form because there are TONS of practices. even more than david d. burns' feeling good

Was watching psychology videos on YouTube, and this got recommended alongside David D. Burns' Feeling Good. Loved the latter, so I wanted to read the former, but then realized I already have it in my to-read (which is a VERY good sign that the book will be up my alley). And here I am!

PS. Love the author's narration and the disclaimer about practices that can't be done through audiobook

"When he was in his thirties, he had looked at certain people's relationships and asked the question that had (and continued to) fuel countless dinner-party conversations: What's going on there? Now, though, as an almost-48-year-old, he saw people's relationships as reflections of their keenest yet most inarticulable desires, their hopes and insecurities taking shape physically, in the form of another person"
