For all his femme fatales, murders, sharp language and noirs plots, James M. Cain, at heart, is a romantic.

This book is so fun! Perfect if you miss Barack and Joe, and if you’re like me and think that Barack Obama could easily be a real life action hero!

I can’t imagine how painful it is for Congressmen Louis to be living through a trump “presidency” after being part of President Obama’s triumphant terms. I feel for Congressmen Louis because as hard as this is for me I believe it must be even harder for him. But I also believe he’ll see the end of this presidency. His strength far surpasses the strength of those who want to send this country back.

With the way things are in this country, it feels too painful to finish this book. The election of trump and the rise of white supremest action in the America means that this story has an unhappy ending -except the story isn’t finished, and when trump and pence are out office and African Americans can be proud of their leaders again -then I’ll come back to this book.

So far I'm not enjoying these stories. They're just not well written. I'm not even sure if I will finish them!

So far so fun! Love learning more about the Brontes! It's especially nice getting to know Anne through these essays.

2nd half (they don't give you more than 420 words 🙄!) I liked the chapter on Tyrone Power. I've only seen him in "Witness for the Prosecution". I'm sure a lot of people had experiences like this. I did feel like the chapter because a little bit redundant after awhile, though. Excited to move onto Lana Turner and Errol Flynn!

So far I'm enjoying the book. I loved the first part about the Hollywood "machine". I know about the studio system fairly well but I didn't realize how intentional and particular the star making process was.

In hindsight Thackeray' writing on the pages leading up to the battle are very tongue in cheek -he's dealing with a heavy matter very lightly -as are all of his characters. Except, of course, for Dobbin, who I'm still not convinced isn't a hero!

I didn't know how the battle of Waterloo ended and I purposely didn't look it up. However, Thackeray's contemporary readers would have known so I definitely had a different experience than they did.
