Read this back in '91 for my Minor in Minority Studies (St. Cloud Sate Univ). It had a huge impact, but now is a hard read. Each page is equal to 2-3 pages of text, with long paragraphs not conducive to reading. This is a case where less would've been more. Lynda Marin's "Her Rights of Passage" is a true stand out. 1 thing this book does well is reflect that white women have yet to really listen or honor other voices

Chapter 18 about BCD is VERY important

Page 145 offers a perfect glimpse into how gay men can pull from both their masculine side and feminine side at the same time, such as competing on a team while offering support and nurture to teammates. Chap. 11 does a great job discussing resiliency and code switching

Chapter 9 on authenticity is timely (I live in FL) and spot on

What a great, unique take on how LGBTQ+ individuals are an asset in the work place, community, and leadership roles

In 1992, I traveled 90 minutes by train to go to the gay bookstore in NYC. This was 1 of the 1st gay books I purchased/read. It always haunted me. Rereading it 30 years later. It's a book that's just as much about the love of writing as it is about the love of love. The author's depiction of living by the Ocean and on Fire Island is spot on.

The chapter "Choosing To Stay at Home: Ten Years after the March on Washington" touched my soul; opened my eyes to what my dear friends living in FL are going through, and how it's a different experience than mine

Read this in 1st semester of Seminary back in 2001. Been wanting to revisit it for years. It's a thick read in many ways. Want to rediscover why our Intro to Theology professor had us read it, and why I recall so little and yet it haunts me even today, 20 years later.

Just a few pages in and I can tell this book will be the perfect daily devotional I've been looking for. Concise and easy to read but filled with rich, relatable images

finding the book pretentious, skimming much of the last 100 pages, but now I am enjoying the letters from Snow to Bird. A bit like Celie & Nettie by way of TEMPLE OF MY FAMILIAR.

The book goes from good to great to boring to frustrating to "Oh my God" to "I can't put this down."

I've read this book at least 12 times in the past 20 years, this time I'm reading it on preperation for a 6 week book study I'm doing at my church during Lent

Midway through ch. 12 the book starts to get its groove back but it's clear the author is only setting the stage for book 3. Damn, I miss the creepy joy of discovery that was the first book

This picked up in chapter 9, still each page is a chore, each situation pointless. I read the first book quickly because I could not put it down, this book I'm reading quickly just to get it over with.

So glad I did not buy this. A painfully boring mish mash off scenarios. Nothing at all like the first book.

Major disappointment so far. I loved the first book for its creepiness, but disliked its last two chapters. Part 2 is all action adventure and this time the photos distract from the story. Makes me appreciate even more the phenomenal magic that was the HARRY POTTER series

OK, I am loving this book and it's giving me the creeps. I swear I hear noises in my house and the things in this story feel so creepily familiar.

This book is looong. fighting the desire to turn to last chapter. I think I already know what's really going on, so each new scene, each new character feels like an extended fall through the Rabbit Hole. less is always more, unless you're AMERICAN HORROR STORY:COVEN

Holy melodrama! The third act packs a wallop but the play is very overwrought. It's interesting to hear what people think the story is actually about. The play talks about homosexuality during an era and culture when such a thing was buried deep, deep, deep in the closet.
