I thought this extra batch of stories omitted from the English publication of Star Diaries might have been cut for quality reasons, but the first three stories so far are all 5 stars. The first of the “mad scientist” reminiscences pretty much outlines simulation theory, but with analog tech, and has uncanny similarities to The Matrix, even including the detail about de ja vu. Lem wrote this in 1957!

I'm two chapters in and there's already a a couple assertions I'm pretty sure are wrong, for instance presenting string theory as the only theory of quantum gravity...

better than I was expecting so far...
