Failed my ‘first 100 pages’ rule. A zillion unsympathetic characters doing nothing. Nothin’s happened 20 pc in (cept gas). He used the word chick. And writes like a Playboy features writers. Pretty dire.

Couldn’t make it past page 60.

A difficult but rewarding read, going straight onto my top shelf. a more confident editor would have cut 25% of this, and bought it down to 300 pages

Abandoned after 120 pages. Death’s Head is a better read and starship troopers is a far better read.
