Regarding the first kiss of Hubert and Joyce: “It was a kiss that didn’t so much say goodbye, as hello.”

With “Born,” “The Acrobat,” and “Theater Impressions,” I think I kinda of “got” Symborska. Who knows? But here, with “Dinosaur Skeleton” I felt like I knew exactly where she was going from the first stanza.

Re her mom’s recollection of her father’s (the author’s grandfather’s) advice about violent change in Iran’s history, its many wars: like my father always said, “when a big wave comes, lower your head and let it pass.”
