Someone teach J.D. what a fairy tale is (and that Job is one).

This reads like a sequel to Hillbilly Eulogy.

This book is super fascinating, but there have some squeamish moments for me, a person who gets woosy around blood.

I'm at the point of the book when, much like Pinocchio, Mary Wollstonecraft and Mary Shelley are just getting themselves into one bad situation after another and reaping the consequences.

I never would have guessed that Mary Wollstonecraft wanted to go to America.

Getting to the good part ...

"Talent is the incubate capacity for taking pains. Genius is the infinite capacity for achievement without taking any pains at all." 😄

This is dystopia at its finest. I hear some people read this book and think it is describing a utopia -- sterility, predestined intelligence, restriction of information, drugs to avoid feelings, religion replaced by stability. It's a nightmare designed to wake us up!

I am enjoying Sarah Ruden's translation!

I feel like this one should be read on a regular basis.

This is shaping up to be an excellent time travel book!

I love the storytelling style of this book!

Compelling!

Drusilla Clack is the worst!

Aha! Sergeant Cuff is the detective in the case, but he's less Sherlock Holmes and more detective Benoit Blanc (of Knives Out).

This reads so much like a Sherlock story! Betteredge (the storyteller) reminds me of Watson. Who, though, is going to step in and solve this mystery?
