This is dystopia at its finest. I hear some people read this book and think it is describing a utopia -- sterility, predestined intelligence, restriction of information, drugs to avoid feelings, religion replaced by stability. It's a nightmare designed to wake us up!

I am enjoying Sarah Ruden's translation!

I feel like this one should be read on a regular basis.

This is shaping up to be an excellent time travel book!

I love the storytelling style of this book!

Drusilla Clack is the worst!

Aha! Sergeant Cuff is the detective in the case, but he's less Sherlock Holmes and more detective Benoit Blanc (of Knives Out).

This reads so much like a Sherlock story! Betteredge (the storyteller) reminds me of Watson. Who, though, is going to step in and solve this mystery?

Although I am braced for a modern twist, I have to say that so far, I am really enjoying this book. I have read Huck Finn several times, and I love how this story fits together like a jigsaw puzzle with Twain's narrative. I'm excited to see how the rest of the book goes along.
