i didn’t realize what a talent king has for writing timeless stories until he just mentioned “a story his mother used to tell about a mermaid”… and went on to describe the plot of the little mermaid… because this book came out in 1979… and the movie didn’t come out til 1989. yeah that made me feel young.

definitely… a choice to pick this one up while on my eurosummer vacation

i did have the thought earlier in this book that i was surprised we didn’t have a single tuberculosis mention in a true crime history that takes place in the late 1800s/early 1900s. no worries — second to last chapter and we got a big one. john green was so right: everything is tuberculosis
