Hallucinogenic and sweet. I loved the focus on women in astronomy, and how much in history has gone unrecognized because women are not given credit for discoveries. Also, I love these unsettling characters who teach a big lesson.

Sybil Van Antwerp is in her 70’s but she’s still learning and becoming more flexible. This is good news for me!
I do wish I’d been more disciplined with my own letter-writing. When email came along it seems it’s become sort of a lost art.
Evans has composed a rich story from one woman’s correspondence. Inspiring to see these letters fit together to form a life

This might be his best book since atonement. I know everybody’s saying this, but it really is interesting and explores issues that I don’t think I’ve ever heard anybody exploring in exactly this way. As usual, there are one or more twist at the end.

Interesting and unique. I like this detective and this world. Do I detect a possibility of more.

Reread it and loved it again even though this time I listened instead of reading it.

I appreciated the humanizing of usually stereotyped IT workers. The evolution of each after the climax of the story is complicated and real.
I confess it’s weird that people are writing the ‘80’s as “historical fiction.”
But that’s a personal thing.

I love the first 2 in this series! I love the folktale basis of the story. It’s fun to read this winter story in the winter!

I liked the idea of reading the stories with a “class” from George Saunders as a bonus! I also enjoyed hearing what his students thought.
It’s fun to wonder what Tolstoy and Chekov etc meant to convey in their stories. And to realize in such a blatant
Way that only they can express these thoughts in this way. And it’s the same for every writer in the world.

I loved this story! The uniqeness of the plot and characters were not only entertaining but also added a lot to the point of the story.
The loss of the matriarch of the family tore the family apart, and their adjustments caused them to develop and grow. I enjoyed that aspect of the story.

This one is good as are all of Louise Erdrich’s books. I liked the pandemic part and how it naturally interferes in the character’s lives just like it did in real people’s lives. The ghost was an interesting idea, and having dealt with the public, I have experienced these interesting and yet, challenging customers. They do haunt you when they’re gone!
I enjoyed the night watchman very much; it seemed a deeper story.

Poor Ann Boleyn. But, according to this story, she was quite cruel and unfaithful to Henry as well. Not that she deserved to ... well you know. It really brought the story to life and gave me an insight into Henry’s reign. Not exactly sensitive and accommodating himself.

Interesting new thought experiment that unreliable narrators can be on BOTH SIDES. All issues this big and inclusive have up and down sides. Everyone needs to be more discerning about their news sources. If we only focus on one news source, it will always give us only one viewpoint.

Really enjoyed this book. Not surprising I’ve always liked and Patchett and everything she does. Particularly interesting to see how she deals with grief and the family dynamic. Also loved some of the observations about Los Angeles and some landmarks there

Fascinating and tragic. The author did his research and
Uncovered what was basically a holocaust
Amongst the Osage Indians in Oklahoma during the oil boom.
Also fascinating to learn about the baby FBI and private-eye business.

Another disturbing and wonderfully head-trippy psychological mystery by Tana French! I will not miss one if I can help it.
This is her best one yet, I think, with many twists and turns. Never disappointing, Ms. French gets us inside her anti-hero’s mind and plays with us. Read her New York Times “By the Book” and get some interesting new reading ideas!
