This is a long one, eh?

first impressions:
-Elizabeth Hand is great at building tension and creating unsettling imagery. Love the black rabbits with bloody teeth thing
-The narrative is odd. One character is written from 1st person and the other characters are all 3rd person. Unfortunately, I can't stand the 1st person character.
-This author really likes the Child Ballads, huh? (I'm reading this after having read Wylding Hall.)

Things I quite like about this so far...
-The family's dark past. This isn't a perfect family unit of mother, father and daughter. Misao and Teppei, the parents, were involved in an affair before Teppei's first wife committed suicide and he then married Misao. The two of them, for whatever reason, were able to move on easily.
-Misao's troubled relationship with her mother following this affair

DNF last spring

Yes, I am currently reading this, but will I finish it? That's always the question with an Anne Rice novel...so far, I'm finding the family history really interesting, but the obviously impending romance plot is VERY DUMB. I'm guessing it will eventually devolve into softcore porn.

I'm reading this for the second time, after more than 10 years. I'm actually reading the illustrated version, but Goodreads won't let me add that for some reason. Oh well.
