Yikes. I'm not sure who is the actual prisoner here. Regardless of class and money, all the characters are trapped in different ways.

The book is not *just* about the Edmund Fitzgerald, but about the history of Michigan and the Great Lakes. Some of it I knew, and some this book is teaching me!

Already awesome. My step dad took us to the Great Lakes Maritime Museum (They have the Fitzgerald's bell) when I was a teen, so I've always been fascinated by this area. This is my first book by this author. Already enjoying it.

Years and years ago, I had a boyfriend who was the life of the party, very attentive to me and not much fun when you got him home. Everything was my fault. One night, I handed him his shoes and told him to get out. Missed that bullet! It kills me that she did the classic young woman thing - " What did I do? I should pray more,I should submit."

Still reading because the resistance description of WW2 are interesting. I'm not one who enjoys the minutiae of women's thought and romance, or overly long banter, so I'm kinda skipping over those.

Already, SO GOOD. SO SO GOOD.

"THIS was the life she had been in mourning for? This was the life she had been beating herself up for not living. This was the timeline she thought she had regretted not existing in."

So good.

Page 261: UAF does not cover itself in glory. A passage involving Dr. Wood (Wood Center is named for him) & John Wolfe is particularly cruel, and documented. I survived numerous fracas on that campus myself(I was commanded before General Counsel on my 2nd week of employment there)& this was particularly hard to read. They not only fired him, changed his research, hounded him across the country, then crowed about it.
