A story of turbulent passions surrounding the “’earthy force of the Karamazovs’”. The patriarch, Fyodor Karamazov, “while he had a firm character “in certain things in life,” as he himself put it, showed, to his own surprise, even a weakfish character in certain other “things in life.” Fyodor is shown to be a vulgar and depraved self-serving man most of the time. Two of the story’s three son’s wish him dead.
