Amazing book so far(bleakbleakbleak); just can't stand the actual physical book as it's pretty heavy and keeping it open is a chore with the binding being so stiff and cheap.

To be honest, the first story is kinda boring so far. The plot is fine, characters fine, but the writing isn't the greatest and takes all the life out of the story.

Yaaaah, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to read a massive, weighty, tome right as we go into Xmas tree sales. This book is heavy!

Big book, heavy book, heavy themes, big events. I started this one at the start of July, and for some reason GR didn't log it, so yeah I didn't read 506 overnight. I wish.

Yay, my eyes are letting me read again!

It's flu season...cutting into my reading season....sigh.

First hundred pages are like a shotgun blast full of tears.

Don't know if I can finish this book now. It's giving too many spoilers away of Victor Hugo's Les Misérables and I haven't read it yet. Who does that?

The author literally slaps you across the face at the end of this chapter. My cheek still stings thinking about it.

If J.R.R Tolkien is considered a master of world building, then Elsa Morante should be considered a master of character building. Her characters have a depth and breath of life to them.

Its legs were a little wobbly at the start, but once it finds them, this book really runs well. Really enjoying it.

Unfortunately, I found this book to be too over the top, with most of the characters being unrelatable and feeling like caricatures. The writing was fine, some of the humor hit as well, but I couldn't get past the way the story was handled and how the families dealt with each other.

Finished Two Towers and will start Return sometime this month.

Finished off Fellowship. Gave it a 4/5 as the story and world building were pretty amazing and the writing had a cozy feel to it. It lost a star for some yawn inducing stretches of journeying and some sentences being awkward. One thing that got a sensible chuckle out of me were the names for things. Back when this was written I'm sure they sounded fine, but now they just sound dirty.
