SERIOUSLY, YOU GUYS, THIS IS NOT A SENTENCE.

“Their shared bedroom, posters she’d hung, science and planets, he would be the smart one.”

That is just a jumble of phrases. Arg.

Only one chapter into this and the writing style is making me batty. But it’s a book club book, so I will persevere.

“Papa called them unmaking seasons. Told me that every quiet, stable period in your life would be followed by a season of unmaking, where upheaval and chaos and change would push at your edges and force you to grow.”

Well if that doesn’t hit right in the solar plexus.

I am already struggling with this one. It’s just taking itself too seriously and the writing feels pretentious and flowery yet flat. 60 pages in and I do not care about anything.

Rereading this twenty years (!!) later. 😳
