I've done some skimming, but this brings back too many memories...
Rough reading, if you're a survivor
May have to table this
With gratitude for the understanding and assistance it's offered so far

Wait, wait, wait. Sorcerer's Son wasn't her only book?
Gimme! Now! Best battered used bookstore purchase on my list; when the spine's that roughed up, you know someone loved it; the contents did not disappoint.

Pretty much everything else has taken a back seat to this book of late I'm finding it intensely relatable and thought provoking, although I'm slightly horrified by the latest character addition.
I owe Murakami for sending me over.

Is the artlessness contrived? This is such an odd writing style, but it holds the audience.
Why should the boy be ashamed? He did nothing wrong. I don't know if a child's lie should be forgiven, when it ruined a life- two lives- anyone whose family backs a lie is justified in disowning them. I might just be in love with this author.

Genre switch. After Machines Like Me, I blanket listed him as "to read, don't care what." Thriftbooks listed this. I told em to send it.
Period drama and romance were not what I had in mind, but it's gripping reading.
Except.
Second in a row on rape accusations and the man being accused for the crime he didn't commit on that particular girl.
Writing is psychic communication- he's not wrong

What do I think? I think this is too few characters to voice any sort of opinion or take notes for personal use at a later date.
Five stories in, and each one kicked like the best Harlan I've read, minus the humor, and with extra scientific speculation.

This is brilliance. Sheer brilliance.
Queen of Pig Island... well, I grew up dreaming of carnival camaraderie, as did many people a generation or two behind me, and as a library's child... I'm out of my time. Fantastic statement on love: I'd recommend it to anyone.
Frozen Beauty - chills, that's all. What if?
Brighton Monster- seductive mix of history and myth, and for a moment it's easy to take for reality

Friends who vanish inexplicably but deliberately, a man with no color of his own. I'm in love with the way Haruki translates life into fantasy; it always feels like a nicer version of home.
He always goes to the heart of social issues.
I guess this one touches on rape.
But not incest or religion stuff.
I dread the day I run out of his published work.
This man is good.

Trigger warnings, for anyone trying to go it alone.
The affirmation that you actually experienced what you did may not help if your immediate environment is not safe.
It's hard to heal when someone wants to break you.
True confession: I grew up with a manic depressive. The experience almost killed me.

I have trouble with King. His style of chopping his writing for the good stuff disrupts the flow so I find him jarring, incoherent.
But if he talks like this about a Seeker of Truth, he's all right by me.
I've already read a few of these, but it's good.
So far... this one has been safe.
At least, as far as a champion of truth ever is.

Apparently, those of us who grow up with abuse are much slower to hit the escape button on a dangerous situation.
Other research shows us more responsive to subtle cues. So which is it? Or what does this combined information mean?

Five stars so far, if only for the Ellison rant and the pleasure of hearing it in his own voice.
I don't know when I've last laughed so hard; he is nothing if not gracious and creative even in his insults.
Producers almost always butcher good writing.
Excepting Princess Bride, Never-ending Story, and The Last Unicorn, the original has always been disgracefully shoddy compared to the writer's version.
Carry on.

Dr. Death was really good. Toy Theatre was good fun, but harsh. Cerberus was fantastic, except the end came up short.
Beech Hill fell flat.
Hour of Trust- wtf is this for? Oh. He was strapped for ideas and rewrote someone else's not good story. Well done; it's true to the original.

It was clear from the first pages this was extraordinary work.
We shall see how the rest unfolds.

A child in these circumstances will likely be approached by more than one family member.
The silence will make them blame themselves-
And defend the group if they speak. Obviously whistling on anyone and everyone, else how could three or four be guilty of such a crime?

This book is on pause, but I believe it is important.

Very triggering stuff, but also important information. 10-30% of girls are molested by a caregiver, bit lower but still significant for boys. Usually, incest runs in families, as once the taboo is broken, some prefer to see all rules as off rather than admit their mentor was guilty of a crime. So they become the next generation of abusers.

"Our memories are made up of our individual and our collective memories... If our collective memory is taken from us- is rewritten- we lose the ability to sustain our true selves."

I have never seen the issues of domestic abuse and sexual assault dealt with so clearly, realistically, helpfully.

Written here are things some people very much need to hear said.

Liveliest little apocalypse I've ever seen, but I'm borderline on the writing. Good energy, ton of glossed over points. I learned more about the guys' t-shirts than whatever illness or chemical wiped out their families. I'm all for keeping it light, but a little consideration here?
