Leah is finished with This Is How It Always Is
It's always nice to read about good parents trying to do the right thing.

I have complicated feelings about this book. I struggle to reconcile someone who devotes her research to understanding why people of color are less likely to receive a kidney transplant but in the next chapter complains of the financial cost to the health care system of providing dialysis to individuals who aren't in treatment for substance use disorder, and visits a patient in the ER to tell them "I told you so."

Leah is finished with The House of God
I rarely stop a book in the middle. Couldn't finish this one. Crude, out of date, mean to patients, overly sexual. Grateful things have changed in medicine since its writing.

This was all I ever needed. Lesbian fighter pilots, need I say more?

Leah is finished with Body and Soul: The Black Panther Party and the Fight Against Medical Discrimination
Remarkable that while I had heard of the Black Panther Party, I had never heard about all of this good they had done.

Leah is finished with Tipping the Velvet
As unbelievable as it was intense, an interesting take on the possibilities of lesbianism towards the end of the 19th century. In the end, found myself horribly annoyed with the main character.

Pretty good. A lot about God, a lot about love. Skipped some of those parts, but the story is powerful; an important reminder in doing all possible to make sure that the written diagnosis is the most accurate. Furthermore, a reminder that despite the diagnosis, every individual is different.

Leah is starting The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America’s Shining Women
Heartbreaking. Very eye-opening to hear about all of these women in science, throughout history, who were either hurt or ignored by the very field they worked for in the end. Some parts were very repetitive, but otherwise, quite excellent.

Very interesting. Read either before all the other stories, or after reading all the others. Seemed jumpy at first, but tied it all together at the end.
