This feels less about the twist, and more about the psychological state of those involved. Like it so far.

Julie Soto does a great thing with this novel. She is telling the story with Past and Present POVs, past for Elliot, Present for Ama, and worked the third act conflict to be situated in the past POV. I like it, it is different and adds to the drama.

“Loving is something we all do alone, and through different sets of eyes.”

So pissed at this guy… how about we compare his handwriting to the threats she’s been getting.

Oh goodness, this chapter is brutal.

Nahri: She has progressed so much as a healer! I’m proud of her :) She has matured in some areas, while still feeling like her sassy/conniving self. Her eyes have been opened to her new family’s faults and her Daevas needs and struggles.
Ali: his story so far brings a smile to my face, because he has been able to learn more about himself outside of his family duty.
Dara: is suffering and not happy, enough for me.

Damn, this one hits right in the financial feels 😭

I am getting whiplash with this Carpenter character, and it’s not even his fault, it’s the MCs! She can be a bit much, idolizing this man and obsessing from afar. You are a fully grown woman, get a grip.

I think I’m taking a little longer with this one because I’m finding it kind of hard to stay within the female MCs pov—she is just kind of racist, elitist, classist, and just… she also has parts of her to admire, but man is her inner commentary cringe. Which might be part of the point the author is trying to portray honestly. It’s giving, white savior complex.
