Picked up this little Dover embroidery reference paperback originally published in 1935. I haven't started a chapter, but the preface is promising: "EMBROIDERY, like every other art—or sport, for that matter, needs to be understood to be enjoyed." Any dame who suggests that needlework is a kind of sport is my kind of dame.

Jacobs ideas about city planning resonate very much with my general ideas of city usage and design, and have given me a lot to think about. However, it suffers from a lack of citations, and I wish she spent more time citing statistics or referred her reader to outside data (if only to assuage my fears that I am succumbing to confirmation bias).
