As an ardent Nazemian appreciator, there’s a lot here to admire: the historical scope and the literary ambition. Although Naz relies on YA tropes more than I'd like - some of these emotional confrontations feel more melodramatic than earned - the novel's meditation on queer history, legacy, and the danger of turning people into symbols is compelling. Those ideas are carrying me to the finish line.
