André Habet is starting Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Utopia
Fun setup for new status quo. Some characters are all power set and no arc under Fraction.

Kept waiting for the satire to make me feel something or congeal into a coherent perspective. That didn’t happen.

André Habet is starting Hungry Listening: Resonant Theory for Indigenous Sound Studies (Indigenous Americas)
I'm through the intro alone and it's dramatically shifted my feelings towards my current academic project. At the end of the intro, Robinson asks settler readers to stop reading the rest of the intro reserved for indigenous readers. It's an immediate test of settler readers' ability to deny ourselves knowledge as a form of allyship. He's doing important work here that refuses to center a settler audience.

André Habet is starting The Unreality of Memory: And Other Essays
This book is amazing but I've had to pause on it. because it is so haunting, and painful to engage in. I love Gabbert and will return to it when I have the capacity for her searing insight.

My review of Lala Albert's 'Seasonal Shift' (published by Breakdown Press) dropped this morning over at Solrad. Thanks to Solrad editor Daniel Elkin for his great feedback on this piece as it was developing. Read Albert's book, and my review!

Stopping at the bit that ask the reader to wait a week before continuing to read. I heard the comic insisted on a particular reading speed as a means of better savoring the craft and labor of the narrative and comics-making. Didn’t realize that such temporal control would be so explicitly insisted on. I found it really charming in its delivery and placement though, and always up for practicing a bit of self denial

I dig depictions of the mundane in comics in a manner I despise in most other mediums. I share this because as far as how they deploy the affordances of the medium is typically very boring, clarified by how page layouts and paneling tend to only get interesting when the narrator is on drugs. It’s like, yo, comics memoirist, you can do this even if your character is sober.

This book looks at trauma from every angle in a process of healing and rage. Words are used here in ways I didn't consider possible. There's a deftness to language here that makes Elbert an alchemist specializing in memory.

André Habet is starting Having a Coke with Godzilla
This book really opens new ways of thinking about masculinity for me. The language here spiraling between registers and feels like transcriptions from the Kazumi Chin's dreams. The poem with Godzilla is very good too for those who sweat that stuff.
