This is getting exciting, but also I feel there might be a plot hole going on. All of the humans are under a spell, ordered to kill crown prince Otello. He is also human but somehow seems immune to this spell? Why wouldn’t it affect him? Wouldn’t he try to kill himself?
So far this isn’t explained, but hoping it will be soon. It’s a good plot point as long as that hole is closed up.

Getting more interesting.

Amber should have demanded more details on what this “event” entailed before agreeing to it. Like what her exact role is. I’ll bet she’s the kind of idiot who won’t back out once she learns the truth because “a deal is a deal” even if it involved subterfuge and withholding important information. But “for the plot!” 🙄

Starting a new series. Hoping it’s way better than the last one (that I’m taking a break from). Four books in one kind of deal.

1st story MMC is a wolf-shifter fae king named Cade, who apparently keeps his clothes when he shifts. We’ll see if that remains consistent.

I find the blood transfusion unrealistic.

These books were categorized as YA in Barnes & Noble. But they are NOT YA books.

I wasn’t especially fond of the rape scene in this one. 😑

Timeline Doesn’t make sense. Lucian Thorne was only king for 5 years. But Madelynn is almost the same age as him and claims she’d spent her entire life believing the rumors he’d made up. That isn’t possible if he’d been king for only 5 years.

Ok so the king doesn’t drink and the fmc immediately jumps to the conclusion that he’s a violent alcoholic. I can’t tell if it’s a setup so this assumption turns around to bite her in the ass later on, or that this author is so boring and cliche that it really is because alcohol turns him into a violent drunk.

Emotional manipulation never ends well. Threatening to take a lover if he didn’t give her what she wanted. Cliche. Ended how I expected it to, with a go ahead.

The plot is good. The writing is so bland and dry. It doesn’t evoke emotion or makes me feel for any of the characters. Might as well be reading a phone book.

These books are supposed to be standalones, but that’s not right. There is a main plot that ties them together—the elf king’s desire for revenge on the Nightfall Queen. You can read just one or two books, but if you read them out of order, the revenge plot might not make sense. Also, it will leave you with questions as there are loose ends. A standalone should tie all loose ends up by the end of the story.

Ok. Author has a tendency to plug other authors in her books. This one mentions J. Hall, which I can only assume is Julie Hall, another indie author. In The Last Dragon King, she plugs a different author. Not sure how I feel about that. I suppose it’s better than her plugging her OWN books in the story, which I’ve heard some indie authors will do.
Seems a bit silly, not gonna lie.

The editing isn’t quite as good in this one. There seemed to be most of a sentence missing on one page, and a character was introduced with her name spelled two different ways.

Again, not a bad read so far, but a little bland and uninspired. Not much detail to grip the reader and draw them into the world. And still with the use of the modern vernacular!

Not bad but all the modern and earthly references used in this fantasy world is a little jarring. It doesn’t fit the narrative. Also, I can’t stand the names of the animals. Just standard earth-animal names with “in” tacked on at the end. Cougarin, ratin, etc… Not particularly original. 🫤

It’s … not bad. A little bland. The dialogue is a little too modern for the type of book it’s supposed to be. It mentions May Day but there shouldn’t BE a May Day as May doesn’t technically exist in this world.

Struggling to get through it. The editing really could be better. But action has finally picked up. Close to the end, though!

…then I’ve only got three more books to get through. 😅

It’s not bad but the world building is confusing. I can’t get a sense of what kind of world it is. At times it seems like typical medieval fantasy world, but then it’s traveling by horses and carriages and wagons, yet things like working plumbing/showers exist. There are cloaks and leather pants and fantasy garb, but also military boots and running shoes. It’s off-putting!

It’s a good story so far. The author is a good writer. However, I’m only 7 chapters in and I’ve seen numerous typos. And in one chapter, the youngest brother is seven, and one or two chapters later, it says he’s eight. Book could stand some better editing, TBH.
