Pretty good so far. One or two consistency errors but overall the writing and editing are excellent. There are spoilers though, for a series that comes before this one.

Same boring stuff as usual. And I’m sorry but these autumn fae are kind of stupid. 😑

Ok the plot is a copout. In the last book it clearly says that Santa has her throat ripped out by the winter king, yet somehow she’s still alive in this book with ZERO EXPLANATION. Lazy, lazy, LAZY.

Ok. Ash and Hayley are both under glamour. The rule is fae cannot touch them or the glamour will break. But vasant just kissed Haley’s hand and now is dancing with her and the glamour conveniently did not break.

Inconsistency like this is what keeps these books from being great. They’re just meh at best.

Awkward writing. And why is it okay for a woman to force herself on a man when he’s telling her no? Repeatedly! If it was a reverse situation, it’d be considered sexual assault. Not romantic at all. 👎🏻

Why is the editing in this book SO BAD?!😭
Also, Elspeth, YOU ARE A MORON.

Ok. In a previous chapter Ashton drove a car and yet in this one it’s mentioned that iron poisons fae. How? A car is essentially a big iron box! Does it poison them only if they’re stabbed by it or something?! And what are their weapons made of? It better not be steel because that’s just processed iron. They’re carrying around their own potential death if that’s the case.

The editing on this book reeeeally needs work.
And I don’t understand why they don’t cut the lock on the chain cuffing them together??? Or pick it? Or cast a spell on it to open it? Perhaps them being cuffed together is supposed to be symbolic or something, but it’s a little unrealistic to me.

One thing bothering me about this book is how often Ashton is described as buff and muscular. I’m sorry, but if he was wasting away in a dungeon for ten years, tortured and half-starved and no exercise, he’d be little more than a bag of skin and bones. I suppose author could chalk it up to him being far, but that feels like a cop out. Just more bad cliche writing.

I have mixed feelings. On one hand the story is very entertaining. On the other, there are numerous editing and continuity issues that kind of throw me out of it. For example, Elspeth has a broken arm but somehow both of them worked during a make out session with Otello. Go figure. 🙄

Editing could be a little better. A few minor discrepancies in the plot, but otherwise an enjoyable read so far.

This is getting exciting, but also I feel there might be a plot hole going on. All of the humans are under a spell, ordered to kill crown prince Otello. He is also human but somehow seems immune to this spell? Why wouldn’t it affect him? Wouldn’t he try to kill himself?
So far this isn’t explained, but hoping it will be soon. It’s a good plot point as long as that hole is closed up.

These books were categorized as YA in Barnes & Noble. But they are NOT YA books.

I wasn’t especially fond of the rape scene in this one. 😑

Timeline Doesn’t make sense. Lucian Thorne was only king for 5 years. But Madelynn is almost the same age as him and claims she’d spent her entire life believing the rumors he’d made up. That isn’t possible if he’d been king for only 5 years.

Ok so the king doesn’t drink and the fmc immediately jumps to the conclusion that he’s a violent alcoholic. I can’t tell if it’s a setup so this assumption turns around to bite her in the ass later on, or that this author is so boring and cliche that it really is because alcohol turns him into a violent drunk.

Emotional manipulation never ends well. Threatening to take a lover if he didn’t give her what she wanted. Cliche. Ended how I expected it to, with a go ahead.
