I do love the relationship between Ned of Many Surnames and Cecilia (two or three surnames) and will probably keep reading just to see what happens between the pair.

It’s all terribly confusing and I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve had to backtrack because I can’t work out what on earth is going on!

This is exhausting to read. It’s heavy with almost non-stop dialogue between numerous characters who are connected by being part of an alternate universe in Victorian London. Pirates, flying houses, murders, assassination attempts, Queen Victoria, sword fights, pistol fights, evil fathers and rebellious daughters.

I dislike the narrator of this book so will read later.

I am almost ready to give up. This book is very well written but am afraid the endless detail about the relationships within Lady Helena’s large family are, for me, very tedious. It’s repetitive as well.

DNF. I got so bored with this.

I am struggling with this book.

Started listening to audiobook but the narrator (Ashford MacNab) has a peculiar, stilted style that I don’t like.

Can’t listen to the narration, American doing a British accent. Last straw was pronouncing ‘penal’ as ‘penile’. Gah.

Ponderous.

The use of “Baby” by her siblings instead of her name is grating. The woman is a widow ffs.

I am finding the prose stultifying, It had better improve or this will be a dnf.

DNF. Sad to say this series has begun to bore me, Charlotte has morphed from a strong, independent woman into a priggish bore. Marriage seems to have poured cold water on the relationship between her and Wrexford, for a newly married couple there seems little attraction between them. The mystery was inconsequential and I am tired of descriptions of salon life, balls and the other social activities of the ton.

The code-breaking sections are mind-boggling boring for this audio listener. I thought that the poor plot structure of the first book would’ve been overcome in the second, sadly, I think the structure is worse. Too many characters, too many sub-plots, and I find Charlotte a bore. A cold fish devoid of human empathy does not a heroine make.

I am glad I stuck with this as I nearly gave up I found it so boring. Then Charlotte meats Mrs Watson and the story immediately improves. Looking good now :)

The character Gabriel is weird, his attitude towards Lia is unprofessional, so much so that I thought he would turn out to be a con man.

Good, lots of historical detail which I like in a spy novel.
