Are all the Cal chapters going to be endless and pointless bar chatter because I can’t do this again

If I had a nickel for every time a main character in a hockey romance finds their love interest adorable when they wear glasses, well, I’d have 2 nickels but it’s weird that it has happened twice.
JK, it’s so cute and YAY GLASSES REPRESENTATION.

This is such a cute story but the main character being named « Jane » takes me out every single time someone calls her that because in my very HR fixated mind, it automatically becomes SHANE

Why did I think this was about a sweet old lady who somehow found herself solving crimes. She is the one COMMITTING the crimes, all of them!!!

Why is every animal a female like I get the default shouldn’t be male but why can’t it be  « it » and why is it systematic what purpose is this serving exactly) can you tell I’m bored, hopefully this picks up)

Somehow I forgot this wasn’t just about the love story and now I’m stressed out

See, when I set my 2026 reading challenge earlier this year I had no idea I'd actually mainly be reading fanfic about the same two characters falling in love over and over again so, like. I may have to adjust it.

While I still love the writing style, so far I’m a bit put off by how similar the story feels to Migrations

If you’re going to give French names to things (and on the very first page, too) maybe check the spelling and grammar like, let’s meet the very minimum effort

I was not expecting this to be so incredibly delightful and touching, why is it making me feel these thiiings

Apologies if I got this wrong but Abby’s grandpa, who is 68 but everyone in the book acts like he’s 90, moved in with them after his wife died -before Abby was born- so when he was around 50?! Maybe family dynamics are vastly different here culturally than where I live but this just sounds weird. Did he not still have a job? Do we assume that one’s life stops after 50 (let alone 68)?!

A supposedly responsible adult taking kids who 1. Don’t know how to swim 2. Have never canoed, without explaining basic safety measures, is giving me anxiety. This is not what I signed up for here!

I was willing to be lenient and went in knowing what others have said, but I have to admit that 200 pages in, I’m… bored. While I usually love the fact that Ireland is almost a character unto itself in TF books, the endless pub discussions are really not it. And if there were any kind of stakes or plot I’d let it go, but alas, that is severely lacking too.

This is entertaining enough but the writing leaves something to be desired. What is « My cheeks tightened » supposed to mean and why is it being used so much?! She’s smiling? Cringing?! Getting Botox?!?
Fanfic prose at its worst.

So much talk about diapers, and nursing, and useless paragraphs about inane things the kids are doing . I DON’T CARE.

So far, this feels like a very weak, very "let's pile all of the misery on the main character for no reason" Hunger Games copycat, and I am not here for it.

I am enjoying this A LOT.
