I am completely hooked on this book, while not actually liking the story very much. The characters, especially Patrick and Celie, are compelling and sympathetic. Bauer's writing is intimate and wry. The whole egg collectors thing is appalling, although it's easy to understand why the egg procurers did what they did--it was a way out of subsistence living.

I haven't read any fiction since quarantine started--the longest I've gone without reading fiction since I learned to read--this book is a good reentry. Gorgeous writing.

I was listening to the audiobook from the library, and it got snatched back before I could finish. I own the hardcover, but I like the audiobook very much, so now I have to decide if I can stand to wait the 10 weeks until I make it back to the top of the holds list for the audiobook, or just read it in print. Problem is I don't remember what chapter I was listening to when it disappeared.

I am making this one last. It is fabulous!

I don't know what made me check this out from the library, but I am liking it.

So many people have recommended this to me, and I hate it. I have tried 3X, and I keep finding something else to read. I think it's time to say that Eleanor's and my relationship is not completely fine.

I am reading a poem a day, and enjoying this collection. There are a lot of poems about blackberries and none about raspberries, which I find completely baffling.

I didn't have expectations starting this thriller. It is a larger-than-life plot and characters, but it is entertaining so far.

I am very bummed that I have to work today rather than finish this. Mr. Schott has captured the characters of Jeeves and Bertie excellently, and the story is a hoot so far.

I've long wanted to read one of Jimmy Carter's books, and this came on sale, and seemed interesting. It's not what I expected, but it's not bad. However, I am glad it is less than 200 pages.

Completely engrossing and great fun. My theory for whodunit has been ruled out by the detective, but I am not sure he is right.

I really like the character of Perveen, and the story is totally engrossing. Too bad I had to go to work this morning.

Unfortunately, this story is not holding my interest. There is a strange distance between the first person narration and the reader.

I am listening to the audiobook read by the author, and it is fabulous so far. Wonderful language and memoir.

I am two-thirds through this, and it is kind of weird. I've looked into Markham's life, and this memoir skips lots of things that to me appear hard to ignore--like being married off at the age of 16. I don't think I am going to finish this.

Not for me. Glad it was a library loan.

I have learned that your cat wants to eat the same thing day after day. It doesn't get bored with the flavor. Don't try to give it variety!

Witty essays on food and home cooking. The essay on Repulsive Dinners is priceless.

I tried to renew this at the library, but it was on hold for someone else, so I won't be able to finish this for over three weeks.

I am in an intense thinking phase for work for the next few months. So my pleasure reading is getting more and more on the escapist end of the spectrum. Recommendations welcome, especially in mystery, science fiction, or fantasy.

All other reading must stop until Gamache, Beauvoir, and Lacoste have solved the mystery. It is the way of things.

Do I have it figured out? We shall see! This is a gem with Christie playing with the form of the classic mystery.
