"were now virtually at the command of a great Ring of capitalists who, through the medium of the huge monopolies which they controlled, and the enormous sums of money at their command, held the country in the hollow of their hand. These men were as totally devoid of all human feeling or public sentiment as it was possible for human beings to be."
Huh, sounds familiar.

Finally started reading it. I remember someone writing it's like Normal People, but so far it doesn't remind me of Sally Rooney's work at all.
It just feels so mindnumbingly banal. It seems to me the protagonist is an NPC.
I suspect I may end up DNFing it soon.

Damn, it's such a disappointment. Thought it's going to be something special.

I'll probably still read Ministry of Time since Emmie liked it. Also, I'll probably try the hexameter translation of Odyssey since it may be and interesting experience. But perhaps I won't finish it before the end of challenge or something.

It's just so unfair... so twisted that the challenge is pay to win.

So, yeah, I realised the Winter Challenge is basically pay to win with Her Story being all about recent niche books.
Black Heritage was already pushing it but there were still some books in local library and I was able to complete it.
I guess against Goodreads intentions since it was also about recent books.
I just don't want to continue it. DNFed Keakeji and Hunger Games.

So, the final part of Winter Challenge, Her Story got revealed and it turns out it's all very recent and niche books that aren't available in libraries here.
Which made me think about how unfair it is, since it depends on having extra money to buy books.
Like the whole point challenges is to get people to give money to Bezos.
Reading these books already feels like doing a public service and to have to buy them? No.

I need to start reading more as there's only 28 days left in the winter challenge. To make it worse, all of books from Her Story challenge seem to be from last two years and none of them are in libraries here. Disgusting.

"He could see a bright greenish flash as it smote the steel roof of the central fort."
"the explosives with which the missiles were charged must have been far more powerful than anything hitherto used in warfare, as in the focus of the explosion masses of iron and steel and solid masonry were instantly reduced to powder. "
Seems like some novel explosive is used in the airship. Baloons use normal explosives, though.

The author massively overestimates the capabilities of airpower. It shows rather primitive and small aircraft shells and bombs having similar effects and accuracy as 2000lb JDAMs.

It's not literally page 58 since I'm reading it in order the stories appeared in the Inferno! magazine.
I have just finished a story titled Tenebrae which was surprisingly good. The story has originally appeared in Inferno! #2 in August, 1997.
