After 10 pages of summarizing arguments about quality of life increases or decreases during industrialization, Thompson writes, "In fact, so far as the period 1790-1830 goes, there is very little in it. The condition of the majority was bad in 1790: it remained bad in 1830 (and forty years is a long time)."
He has a way of giving all the info and cutting through it with a compelling point of view. Great so far.
