Will Deyo is on page 212 of 848 of The Making of the English Working Class
After 10 pages of summarizing arguments about quality of life increases or decreases during industrialization, Thompson writes, "In fact, so far as the period 1790-1830 goes, there is very little in it. The condition of the majority was bad in 1790: it remained bad in 1830 (and forty years is a long time)."

He has a way of giving all the info and cutting through it with a compelling point of view. Great so far.

Feel like I’ve read enough King by now to know that I don’t like his books

The middle of this book (page 425+, so far) is pretty dry - doesn't have any of the Knausgaard stuff that I love. I believe this essay wraps up around page 900, so I'm a little apprehensive about how quickly I'll be able to move through this.

Most of this section so far was analysis of a Paul Celan poem, and now he's moved into the famous Hitler portion. The Hitler stuff is more interesting.

Will Deyo is on page 30 of 273 of The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter—And How to Make the Most of Them Now
Begins with an unrelated Chomsky quote and launches into a diatribe about how twentysomething culture has changed with basically no acknowledgement that changing material circumstances caused those changes.

I have a feeling this will be frustrating.

Way more fun than I was expecting so far. Also much easier to read. Since they went to sea some of it is dragging just a bit - so far my favorite moments are when Ishmael recounts his step mother sending him to bed at 2pm on the actual longest day of the year, June 21st, and Queequeg describing how in his homeland they use people as chairs and it’s totally normal.
