so far I’m not sure. it’s compelling of course and enjoyable, but the storytelling is circular which may be intentional but ends up feeling like she reordered the chapters halfway through editing the book and didn’t check for narrative consistency. And she’s always spelling out the most obvious bottom line. And pls don’t play woke and then lump in grace Hartigan with the other carousing members of the NYS

Unfortunately had to give up on this book - did not realize what I had gotten myself into and might as well try to force myself to read Russian. My ego suffers but don’t think this was written for mortal men.

This book has way too much “he kissed me and the earth shattered” and “my insides twisted with fear” type bullshit like cmon. The characters and relationships are not believable, so far a weak retelling

I have 2 chapters left. Literally started this morning, so it’s an easy read. If you liked Achilles you would probably enjoy, but it seems all to predictable and easy so far tbh. The fucked up part of me wanted a love story, but it’s to the authors credit that she didn’t leap into a rapist-to-lover in the midst of war trope. Still pretty 1+1=2, kinda like an ambitious essay I would’ve written in high school.

Um YES PLS! confused why the main characters did not plan ANY backstory or practice etiquette or how to speak/write ... neither of them is dumb enough to think that a 21st century female scholar could just be passed off as a 16th century aristocrat and raise zero questions...

Would recommend if u are looking for an easy, cheesy, mildly sexy time. But it doesn't hold a candle to Sarah J Maas. Definitely was exactly what I expected and hit the spot.
