Ankh156 is on page 213 of 502 of Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition
It's the 4th time I'm reading it. By an 'accident of history' I'm reading it in a french translation (Edition Dervy Livres). I know also Dame Yates' 'The Rosicrucian Enlightenment' and 'The Occult Philosophy in the Elizabethan Age' - both read several times. I'm re-reading to gather hsitorical and cultural background for a reappraisal of the rôle played by Dr John Dee on the 'enlightenment' of subsequent centuries.

I read this somewhat hastily whilst I was writing my university thesis in about 1977. I thought it excellent, but only certain chapters (on pragmatism and analytic philosophy of language) were relevant to my studies. I'm re-reading it now, and I'm fascinated by the other material - Hegel, Marx and the existentialists/phenomenologists.

Excellent. Makes you realise what an evil influence on human thought and progress the christian church was ... and is !
