Like many of Erdrich's tales, it takes effort to get involved in their complexity. Her writing is not for the faint hearted. In this story there are no quotation marks, so one has to read carefully to understand who's talking or whose point of view is reflected. I will finish this because I enjoy her work so much, rich with detail and vivid descriptions.
