Rachel is reading UnPresidented: Politics, Pandemics and the Race that Trumped all Others
Both informative and entertaining to read, this has prompted me to add more of the author's books to my list. I found it put flesh on the bones of the news and increased my understanding.

Rachel is reading The Map of Knowledge: How Classical Ideas Were Lost and Found: A History in Seven Cities
The story of the spread of knowledge and transmission of texts is so best that some choice needs to be made in order to Ben describe the process
This book does this well and is a journey through one part of the medieval world of scholarship including a panoply of characters and manuscripts which helped to influence our world.

Rachel is reading Magpie Murders (Susan Ryeland, #1)
Really enjoyed this although I found the structure a little bit contrived. The characters were not deeply drawn but the plot was the most important element. Fun to read.

Rachel is reading The Lindisfarne Gospels: Society, Spirituality and the Scribe
Informative and readable. I have used this book for reference for some time, but it was well worth reading through to get the added value from the structure and context in the book.

Rachel is reading Heavenfield (DCI Ryan Mysteries, #3)
Like the previous two books in the series, I really enjoyed this, and didn't see all the twists coming, although I think I spotted some to come. I know the area which adds to the enjoyment but would read them anyway. Just a really good read!

This was lovely - each chapter/story about half an hour long, a puzzle to work out and a while to spend in a different, now lost, world. Relaxing.

I had forgotten why Le Carre is so revered - beautifully written and gripping to the end.

OK - study reorganised (a bit) to cope with Anglo-Saxon theme of study. I WILL finish Christ and evolution this weekend (in addition to making the Christmas cake) so that I have some 'reading space' and no excuses.

If I'm going to get anywhere with Bede and the Anglo-Saxons I need to immerse myself in it all, and this is the obvious place to start - on home ground! Strangely the start of winter always makes me think of our Anglo-Saxon past.
