I'm bailing before Hound of the Baskervilles

I will finish up the short stories and then I'm bailing. I really don't understand the attraction at this point. The writing is...yikes.

I may be at the point of pulling the ripcord on this. It's clearly just not for me. For the Victorian reader I'm sure it was gripping. Now it's one long-winded, deus ex machina story after another.

Do these get better? I can understand why Victorian readers may have enjoyed the Holmes stories, but um, they don't age well.

When first published, "A Study in Scarlet" apparently drew little notice. There's a reason for that: it's not very good.

This is a re-read, but I read three chapters just killing time and looking for information so I might as well go all the way.

Bailing on this. Boring.
