Joe is starting The Teacher's Funeral
Hilarious! Typical Richard Peck historical fiction. I could definitely see choosing this as a read-aloud for upper elementary or middle school. Beautiful language and descriptions. Fun characters.

Joe is starting The Toll (Arc of a Scythe, #3)
Interesting way to wrap up this arc. Some predictable plot points but several twists I did not expect. I love the complexity of some of the characters, but I wish we went deeper into the lives of others. I thought all the chaos in the end, although it fit the occasion, it was rather anticlimactic for me.

Joe is starting The Hunters (Brotherband Chronicles, #3)
Fun adventure, as always. I will say that I got a little bogged down with parts, but all in all, a great addition to the Flanagan world.

Powerful! Unfortunately, the topics addressed are too prevalent in society. I think all middle school girls and boys need to read it. Abuse needs to end. Period.

Very well written. Loved the relationship between the protagonist and his father. Dialogue is meaningful and interesting. The content, though a bit mature, is very tastefully handled. Bravo, Mr. Card.
