We were off to such a good start; however, the main FMC is such a doormat for her mother that it's bumming me out. It's becoming a struggle to push through the scenes highlighting her mom's antics.

I'm tandem reading this, by which I mean I listen to Luke's sections on audio and read August's on Kindle.

Bahni Turpin's narration is absolutely horrid. There's o acting whatsoever; just the same '90s-sitcom sassy Black woman voice for every character. (Unless it's a male character, in which case it's cartoon grandpa.) I cannot deal with it. 😩

Really enjoying this so far!

I don't care about the girl-boss true crime podcasters, either.

It feels like the authors couldn't get anything new from the more reserved families of the victims, so we're getting random side-quests from people who were only tangentially related to the case.

This book would be a lot stronger if it cut the irrelevant fat. For example, no one cares about the opportunistic evangelical pastor hoping to use this murder case as a tool to prop up his own bad faith lawsuit against the police department.

I have no idea why the authors included it nor even why the pastor would agree to be interviewed. Everything he says, every chapter he's in makes him sound like a ghoul.

I'm enjoying this, but it's making me realize I can't do romance audiobooks anymore. 😩 Also, sex scenes have gotten so boring lately.

This is a dangerous book. I'm trying to be objective but it's setting off a lot of alarms.

I'm only two chapters in, but I had to comment on how '90s Black these characters are. The kente tie. The son's high-top. I love it.
