Quite good so far, really centered around the locals and Tuskegee Raiders in a way I had no idea I’d want.

I’m surprised that new POVs are being introduced this far into the book. Still slow. Still enjoying.

Finished part one. A 400 page saga that’s only just begun. Going to take a break and read some shorter books before digging back in.

As I near the end of Part 1, I’ve finally hit my rhythm with the book. It’s not a slow book, per say, but it is covering a lot of characters and spends a lot of time setting them up. But it’s begun to pay off and some key moments and prose have hit hard. Enjoying this epic quite a lot.

Finally have some momentum with this beast. There has been some payoff too with some amazing chapters and passages. The scope of the book is still not clear, but I’m very much enjoying it and the variety of characters.

Made it to chapter XIII and lost my steam and moved onto to other books. I would like to finish this book, but I think ready Hardy back-to-back was a slight mistake. Pausing on this for now. I wonder if I’ll have to restart or can remember enough to pick it up from where I left off.

Yes, yes, I can certainly see how it’s called the 20th Century War & Peace. 100 pages in and I’m still not sure what the core plot is and there are so many characters it’s difficult to keep track of them. But I’m enjoying the writing immensely. It flows and is quite tender. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.

Wow this book is super depressing… But its authenticity makes it feel important to read, to understand first hand from someone the atrocities of war and WWI.

Enthralled with Hardy’s writing, the focus on farmers, and the Victorian romance. Rooting for Oak to find happiness!

Getting back in the swing of things after a 1.75 year pause on this book and not really impressed or inspired to stick with it. It’s kind of cheesy in a way that’s off putting and the prose isn’t particularly good at all. But it is moving along at a quick enough pace to propel me forward, and I am curious. But it may be the end of the road for me afterward.

Making steady progress and enjoying the storytelling and curious where it’s all going. The writing continues to be insightful and moving, although a bit retrograde at times.

I didn't know what I was getting into when I randomly started this book. I guess I was mostly looking for some Victorian romance but this book is heavy. The writing is beautiful and insightful. And I don't have any idea where it's going...

First story is excellent, what an intro to Dunk and Egg. I really enjoyed having a capsule story with GRRM’s writing, as it works quite well in that format.

Really enjoying hearing directly from Dave Grohl about his life—from childhood to Nirvana to Foo Fighters. His audiobook narration is excellent. The chapters aren’t too long or meandering and the stories are interesting.

Getting through. Funny and clever, as to be expected, but not yet hooked. Lots of obtuse storytelling and switching between POVs with short sections. Curious that there are no chapters!
