One of the reasons I never wanted to read this book is because he's mad or crazy, and it's hard to follow a crazy person. But the addition of the narrator, who has his own kind of craziness, makes it okay to follow, so far. I'm worried that it's going to be repetitive. Also not reading it with any help or guidance.

This was extraordinary and I'm glad that I'm someone who doesn't read flap copy or back cover material because part of what I enjoyed was discovering the meaning of the structure and the section titles. Without spoiling anything, I can say it takes place when South Africa was struggling to abandon apartheid, corruption, crime and despair. You won't like this family, but you want to follow them.

Psychological mystery about a woman convicted of killing her husband and refusing to speak. Reads quickly but really picks up about halfway through.
