Given the mixed reviews I had consternations but I find this fascinating and subtle.

This is an odd book and I believe I see what the author is doing. It’s meta analysis on genre, history and how narratives are subjective. It’s a subtle critique of how justification protects the narrator and the story bends not on fact or truth but on what’s being protected. That a financier was chosen for this analogy is smart.

A bit disappointing because I had high hopes. I was drawn to this because of the subjects and their connection to each other. It’s a great idea but the author is far too casual.

Funny and dry, surprisingly, given the weight of implications and feeling often stirred up about this topic. Classicists should be this way, I firmly believe history should be treaded on with amusement just as much as scholarship.

Essays ranging in topic although repetitive in areas. Zizek is a captivating writer and although his ideas may range controversial to prosaic to insightful, it’s still worth reading for his approach and humor.

I'm seeing if I can get this book read by tomorrow as it's due back at the library and I've been putting it off. I like these kinds of histories so I'm confident I'll at least find the subject matter interesting.
