Why didn't her parents make Paul marry her? That's what they did then. And I'm very tired of the Julia thing. It overshadows the mystery.

Over halfway through and the heroine, who is supposed to somehow prove this Stapleton fellow is a sham, has yet to see the body or the "crime" scene or the casket. And the FBI agent is dumb. Heroine clearly states on page 163 that Amberley had whispers floating around her LONG BEFORE she met her husband...that she'd killed a man. The FBI agent then declares she had an alibi for her husband's death...?? How dumb.

I'm growing irritated by this heroine. it's all about her somehow and her past and secrets. I don't see what this other illusionist has to do with her at all.

I think all the characters have shit for brains. They are just plain dumb. But I'm hooked by their drama.

I'm really disappointed in Velva Jean this time around. I can't believe she's keeping quiet about her friend's death. It's not the behavior I expect from her. She's been admirable in previous stories.

They're 4F, I get it and sympathize, but why aren't they working in a factory or something else to support the war effort? They just sit around and live off mummy and daddy's money? Not sure I respect these characters... Will see.

I was enjoying this mostly until it became about Rick and his crew issues. The Bob story...what was the point? Why is he even in the story?

Ugh. That moment you finally get to a Netgalley book you were really excited about...and find it's an unreadable mess full of weird indents and numbers...yea. What to do? I normally just heave a big sigh, delete the title, and put it back on my wishlist, but I promised the author a review.

I love Netgalley, but I'm not a fan of this new "we'll let the publisher know you want this title available" feature. What's the point? Anyone else feel like they're being teased?

The Book of Negroes TV miniseries was AWESOME. It's so rare that I enjoy the TV version as much as the novel and vice versa, but this time, they're equally excellent. What did everyone else think?

Because of the fees added to PBS, I find myself deleting books of that wishlist and thus, my TBR. Anyone else? I was already paying a 50 cent fee per book plus 50 cents every time I loaded from paypal. Not it's another 50 cents per book. Amazon is cheaper.

I'm struggling with this one. The heroine and hero are toying with each other too much. Too much yakking and mind games. And thus far, there's really no flying at all. And things keep getting repeated over and over. She's told him twice she won't diddle colleagues basically so why the slack jaw? And does she or does she not care about illegal activity? It's back and forth.

I'm pretty sure the AF doesn't send young pilots straight from simulators to F35s without them already having flown something else. Um... She's had college AND flight school in just four years? Except for these irritating things, I like the story.

I was really put off by how quickly they had sex...before 8%, just minutes after meeting; he didn't even know her name...but I'm sticking with it because this heroine is witty and cool (except for how quickly she sleeps with guys!) and I'm seeing that that little...one-nighter...is actually relevant to the storyline.

I'm loving the story thus far, but I must say I really, really, really hate this narrative. It's a first for me and I hope it's the last. Authors, please stick with either 1. third person, past tense or 2. first person, past tense, 3. third person present tense (not my fave, but bearable, 4. first person, present tense (again, not a fan, but can suffer for a good story). This YOU, present tense...is very hard to read

I'm not sure what I think of this book. It's not what I expected but yet I've been kept reading and intrigued. I don't like all the dependency. No strong characters here, really. And I feel like I'm missing some great theme about this.

I feel like an oddball. I seem to be the only person in the world not loving this book. Honestly, these chicks are pissing me off. Ruth is just bloody dumb. And Johanna is an idiot. Why not marry Peter? He's a wonderful guy. Oh..he doesn't make enough money. Maybe if he stopped making glass eyes for little kids who really need them and made something trivial like glass animals instead...he'd have potential? Bitch.

I'm struggling with this because I really dislike this Jabez dude. I haven't liked him all along, but now he's buying slaves. I don't care to read books in which the hero is a slave owner. Disgusting.

"I thought he was foolin' until Pa told me that, indeed, the town of Oskaloosa was entirely run by women." Hey, historical fiction authors, someone needs to write a novel about this town ruled by women. Seriously. As for this title, I'm riveted.
