- the abolition of slavery did not signify that it was not transformed. systems such as lynching are an example of the persisting inequal power structures.

- prisoners are "responsible" for producing some every day items especially in the states

- just like how plantations were built by slaves, urban structures were built by forced labor after the abolition of slavery
