rereading this after reading Silver Sweet is just so shocking.... how did they manage to write such a decent, good book (this one) and then plummet down so completely with the sequel (silver sweet) 🫠 i am baffled

MY HEART 😭 this book literally mended what the 2nd book in this series broke in me

Flare's appearance in this book and Jeryn's utter ADORATION for her really stole the show here. I cannot take such cuteness and yearning. Him having to hide her existence from his kingdom but also staring at her lovingly and reassuring her secretly whenever he gets the chance.... ugh. They stole my heart

Wait... how does Lyrik know about Jeryn having a secret wife named Flare??? The whole point of this is that Jeryn keeps it a secret from his own kingdom and Lyrik didn't even know Jeryn before he moved to his kingdom to work for him. I'm so confused, I hope this is explained reasonably at some point

This book is... so hard to get into. Not because it's not interesting, but bc it's so incredibly problematic from the get-go. If I hadn't loved the previous book (Trick) I wouldn't even give this a second glance. But now I'm curious to see if the author can pull it off

I just want to say that I'm so glad this book's ]male lead isn't Peregrin, because when I read about Catriona and him in the first book I really was put off by their relationship. And I'm glad the only reason he's ever mentioned here is in a negative way and to show how even the thought of him stresses Catriona out lol

Oof. I started this very slow, and that's on me. But damn, now that I've decided to pick up the pace I keep getting pissed at Wes and stuck. I can't believe I'm saying this but maybe just scrap the romance and make it about the fantasy, why don't we? Better no romance than a badly written one.

The way the Maxton Hall writers ATE bc the pool and car scenes in the book aren't nearly as good as the show's.
