Honestly, after the first hundred pages there was nothing about the book that I found moving, compelling or interesting enough to make continue. I have the utmost respect for Barnes as a writer and I’ve always found nineteenth-century Paris fascinating, but the book just didn’t work for me and I don’t know why.
