For a second edition there's a lot of typos in this. Also not sure it understands what it wants its vibe to be. The words describe it as gloomy and horrifying but the art and emphasis on "boorista" cafes is super cozy.

This author's pretentious arrogance is astounding. Even as a self-professed grammar and punctuation nerd, I can barely stand it.

The only thing keeping me reading this is how fun writing snide remarks in the margins is.

I really enjoy this series but it is taking me SO long to get through this one. Not sure why. Its a bit emotionally exhausting so I guess I'm limiting my exposure.

I would say about half of this book didn't need to be there. The B story (or I guess the A story?) is just...kinda pointless.

Despite needing a degree in astrophysics to understand half of what is said
Despite the main protagonist being the epitome of an ignorant conservative old white dude
Despite the characters being seemingly devoid of all emotion
Despite the bizarre focus on the mating structures of aliens and the idea of "non-sentient females" across TWO different groups...
I keep reading, because the scifi ideas are that compelling.

A book greatly in need of an editor. 10 chapters to actually get to talking about the man who made the map. Every chapter intersperses the interesting story of William Smith with tangents that go on FOREVER

I should have read this before I had kids.
