I love Smith's writing style so far. Samad is so self righteous and icky, I can't wait to move to another character's perspective.

The setting is lovely, but the modern dialogue is quite excruciating so far.

Liking it so far, but I am fantastically bothered by the names of the women characters- 20/30-year-olds named Doreen, Linda, and Barb?? Those are the names of women in male-authored 60s sci-fi! :-P

Michele is on page 76 of 176 of Demystifying Disability: What to Know, What to Say, and How to Be an Ally
"...referring to racist people as mentally ill or calling racism a "sickness" or "disease"... calling any form of prejudice "a disability" is both dismissive of the issue at hand and an expression of prejudice against disability."

The bitterness has faded, I'm enjoying the tale a lot more now.

With a bitter and angry first-person narrator, I'm not sure how excited I am about this one anymore...

Michele is 45% done with Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking
When talking about sensitivities (to caffeine, light, sound, people, etc.) that many introverts experience, I thought an opportunity to mention autism spectrum disorder or sensory processing disorder was missed by the author.

Michele is on page 234 of 441 of In Other Lands
The main character, Elliot, has been such an unremitting bully and jerk up until halfway through the book/3 years into the story, that I think I'm hate-reading at this point. Written so dialogue-heavy, I still feel clueless about the "other land" the story is taking place in.

"Those images helped awaken our slumbering planetary consciousness. They provide incontestable evidence that we all share the same vulnerable planet. They remind us of what is important and what is not. They were the harbingers of Voyager’s pale blue dot."
