I love Smith's writing style so far. Samad is so self righteous and icky, I can't wait to move to another character's perspective.

The setting is lovely, but the modern dialogue is quite excruciating so far.

Liking it so far, but I am fantastically bothered by the names of the women characters- 20/30-year-olds named Doreen, Linda, and Barb?? Those are the names of women in male-authored 60s sci-fi! :-P

The bitterness has faded, I'm enjoying the tale a lot more now.

With a bitter and angry first-person narrator, I'm not sure how excited I am about this one anymore...

When talking about sensitivities (to caffeine, light, sound, people, etc.) that many introverts experience, I thought an opportunity to mention autism spectrum disorder or sensory processing disorder was missed by the author.

The main character, Elliot, has been such an unremitting bully and jerk up until halfway through the book/3 years into the story, that I think I'm hate-reading at this point. Written so dialogue-heavy, I still feel clueless about the "other land" the story is taking place in.

does it get any better? or interesting at some point?

This book has been a struggle to finish...

nearly finished, but accidentally left my copy on a train while heading to Malmö, Sweden. :-(

About 200 pages in, the story really picks you up. I love this book! But it is so long! :-)
