This book really could have used an American editor. An effort was made to make the American seem American, but there were constant anachronisms that made the effort seem contrived.

Ch 10 🤣😂🤣 jokes on me. Grandpa Doomsday IS from Georgia. LOL I just thought it was terrible voice acting when in fact I guess it was pretty good. Haha

Somewhere in ch 6 and I adore KJ Charles but this narrator is seriously ruining this book for me. 😭 the georgia low country version of Grandpa Doomsday is just The Worst. In general an older man voice reading <30yo characters bugs me a lot.

I feel like this author does not understand the meaning of the word judicious. This is the second book I’ve read of theirs where they used the word in a place where the context called for a word that meant “excessive”.

Wait. What? The super mysterious, probably-an-international-spy-leader Kit Montgomery is...a small-town theater director?! So far, this book feels like how I imagine the characters in Waiting For Guffman perceive themselves.

To read Lily Morton books, you would think that every single gay man in the UK wears Vans exclusively. An endless variety of vans, and about once per book, a “beat up pair of converse”. 🙄

Does this Charles character improve at all? Because right now he is an overgrown, whiny adolescent and is annoying AF.

I wish these people were smarter about dealing with “bad guys.” They are so dumb it’s cringy.

Google also has a thesaurus. Those are helpful for avoiding the use of “mayhap” every third or fourth paragraph.

Kate rec’s £400 every 3 months and is STRUGGLING to get by while living in apparent penury in a building she owns. Wtf. That’s today’s equivalent of £160K per year. Stupid writing. A quick google search is all it takes to not be ridiculous.

These people are unbearably inept at human interaction. Why am I still reading this?

Here’s another one: “Rosabel avoided eye contact, and after procuring another drink for herself, retreated into a shady spot in the corner by the window front.”

Shady? How about shadowy. Secluded. Semi-private?

*foreboding* This is only the second book I’ve read by this author but I’ve come across a number of wrong-word-choices. What is the editor even doing?!

“‘Don’t you ever walk away from me when I am talking to you!’ he bellowed...” What. The. Fuck. We are at the end of the book and the literally stupid H is talking to his wife like this?! I suppose his character is magically going to change in the next 5-8% of the book.

I hate these people. Is this supposed to be entertaining?

That fight was effing stupid. I would like to think a reason will be revealed later but I don’t have much hope. 🙄

“Prologue London 1805 (or a variation thereof) Seven Years Earlier” uh oh. I haven’t even made it to the first sentence and I’m confused by sloppy editing. When are we talking about here? Not even worrying about *where* yet.
