I nabbed this gem from the library's 25-cent shelf, because you can't go wrong with a book by Jonathan Kozol, right? I have other non-fiction books on my TBR pile that I wanted to get to first, but I thought I'd read a couple of pages to see where Kozol was heading in this one. Thirty-four pages in, and I'm hooked. For an author who relates the experiences of the poorest children in America, it's a real page-turner!

One of those meticulously researched historical books that nevertheless remains readable to the average person.
