Ch19: Lizzie gets her man.

Ch18: Claire retreats to her inherited country home...and is set upon by a rake who won't take "no" for an answer.

Ch17: Lizzie decides to help things along because she's worried over Claire. Bertram has yet to propose, & Lizzie thinks Claire's growing concerned. So Lizzie devises a plan to set the men in motion.

Still not overly fond of the Lizzie/Bertram chapters. I guess I'm just partial to Claire & George. Lizzie's just a bit too...something for me to cotton to fully, & Bertram's a dolt to prefer Lizzie to Claire.

Ch16: Bertram learns his lost love finally married George's brother. So he determines it's time to propose to Claire. But he finds Lizzie attending the outing he had planned for Claire and himself. And Claire's desired outing is NOT to Bertram's or Lizzie's delight, so the two are dismissed. It's here that Bertram learns Lizzie has a brain to go along with her looks and charm--and it's all thanks to Claire.

Ch15: Bertram still hasn't proposed, and George is mad at him for it. George manages to get Claire and Lizzie introduced to Lady Jersey, which leads to their ability to dance the waltz at Almack's, and Bertram's jealous because HE wanted to work out their intros somehow. So George and Bertram fight at the club. And George is determined to propose to Claire in a month if Bertram doesn't get to it himself.

Ch14: Almack's. And even Claire was a success!

Horace proposes, but Bertram comes to Claire's rescue.

And Claire's obviously now in love with George...even if she doesn't know it yet herself.

Ch13: George & Bertram race, & Lizzie is there to see...& get herself set upon by 2 ruffians. And Bertram makes plans w/his sister to get the girls introduced into London society & to get Claire to dress better for any woman who would marry him MUST look the part of a future countess so as not to embarrass the family Name OR him.

Yeah, I don't care for the Bertram/Lizzy chapters as much as the George/Claire ones.

Ch 12: George and Claire go off together for a day in the country and get better acquainted.

And at the end of the day, George can't but wonder why it's taking Bertram so long to propose to Claire. Because George sees in her a woman worthy of the question!

Ch 11: George and Bertram by the ladies a housewarming present. Lizzie confides in George a secret about Claire. George takes matters in hand to introduce Lizzie to respectable people so she’s not taken for one of his barques or mistresses. And Lizzie is beginning to feel "not quite the thing" when she thinks of Bertram settling down with her beloved sister.

Ch 10: The girls set up house in London, and the boys make their first visit, surprising both girls.

And Claire swoons at the mere sight of George and his dark hair sprinkled with gray! 😊

Ch 9: Bertram rescues Alfie but gets slung with manure for his troubles. Lizzie creates a scene when she tells her mother off during a dinner party.

I'm not overly fond of Bertram and only slightly more fond of Lizzie. I guess it's because I like Claire, and Bertram doesn't recognize her value basically because she isn't a beauty (like Lizzie).

Ch 8: George cries off for Oxford...but not before taking leave of Claire in her greenhouse and divulging his past into her confidence...and realizing as he left that he really did need a wife.

Ch 7: George meets Claire upon a rain-soaked walk and, instead, has her join him on his horse to take her home.

Ch 6. Lozzie and George into yet another scheme, and secrets are uncovered by Lizzie about George and Bertram.

Ch 5. George finds Claire as fresh as a new bud in spring when she's in her own private world: her greenhouse, where she comes alive at talk of her favorites: roses.

And he learns she even made a new one that she named a unique name--and had him complimenting her prettily! They even shared a inside-joke laugh when Lord Pomeroy came upon them.

Seems as if love might be in bloom!

Ch 4. Bertram, Lord Pomeroy, meets Claire and Lizzie. He quarrels with the first and finds the second could possibly make a "good enough" wife--especially when his aunt wants to pair him with his dead-bore cousin Amelia!

Ch 3. Lizzie & George, Lord Winterborne, enter into a scheme to dupe her mother into believing George and Lizzie are on the road to love.

Ch2. Now we meet Lord Bertram Pomeroy. Fresh from a broken engagement (his heart's desire chose Lord Winterborne's brother), he's to inherit an earldom, which, now that he's free again, makes him prime pickings!

He'll fall for Lizzie, though his sister Caroline wants to set him up with Lizzie's sister Claire.

Not certain how I feel about Bertram. But since I prefer Claire, I guess I like him for Lizzie.

George Winterbourne has just met the heroines, Claire and Lizzie Sutton. I couldn't remember what the back said, but I was hoping he'd end up liking Claire (and, according to the back, he does). Don't know why, but I already like them together.

Can't stand the mother, though. Father and brothers aren't much better.

Looking forward to the sisters' arrival in London.
