I look forward to reading the daily thoughts and prayers in this book. I’ve tried others in the past and found them severely lacking, but this one speaks to me from the voice of an independent woman, a voice severely lacking in the Catholic Church.

One of the characters expressed the exact thought I had: wait! The Underground Railroad was a REAL railroad!!? I didn’t realize that actual train cars ran on an underground track. Wow. This book’s story arc was too long, but it was a realistic depiction of the horrors of enslavement.

Winter is not the death of the life cycle, but its crucible.

Tsunamis anywhere, destroy property and kill the living, but in Japan, they inflict a third kind of injury, unique and invisible, on the dead. Had a stroke, thousands of spirits had passed from life to death; countless others were cut, loose from their moorings in the afterlife. How could they all be cared for? Who was to honor the compact between the living in the dead? How could there fail to be a swarm of ghosts?

This book is breaking my freaking heart!!!

This thing is so damned long!!!! And how the hell does he remember all these ludicrously specific details??!! But man, I actually love his writing. This is one drug-fueled, music-filled biopic I can get behind...for once.

I’ve been in a reading funk. This might do the trick!

I enjoyed meeting the author who spoke at my school with a very positive message for young boys. The book had a lovely message...but since I already knew how it would turn out, I kinda lost interest.

In Victorian-era America, public pools were for the urban poor to bathe in!

Do I really want to read this tripe? His sister's name is Go? Really? Cloying.
